The task is the starting point
Nursing covers clinical tasks within an appropriate plan and scope. Companionship covers non-medical everyday assistance and company. A title alone is not enough: discuss the specific tasks before agreeing care.
A family may need both
Having a companion does not remove the need for a nurse when clinical tasks are required. More than one service can be arranged, with clear written responsibilities for each person.
Three questions to ask
What tasks are needed? Who is qualified to perform them? What is outside the service scope? Ask for clarification on anything unclear before care begins.
